Saint Bath
Kopúnková, Alexandra ; Kotvanová, Lucia (referee) ; Klodová, Lenka (advisor)
The bachelor's thesis works with a subjective experience and its content is comparable to a bathroom in the sanctuary of consecrated water. It works with the topic of water flowing from the tap as the last element (even in this enslaved state) with which a person regularly comes into contact. Water washes us, cleanses our face, reveals ourselves and „heals“ us. We go to the bathroom to wash up, clean our faces, reveal ourselves and "reveal ourselves". The feeling of the security of privacy, the peace of adenno daily completion of a ritual which begins and ends the day, in the work leads the author to the ideas of the rarity of this space.

Neo-Pagan Features in Boyden's "Three Day Road"
Bohal, Vít ; Kolinská, Klára (advisor) ; Jindra, Miroslav (referee)
In the thesis for my upcoming bachelor's paper I aim to analyze the topic of religion in Joseph Boyden's novel Three Day Road (2005). More specifically, I aim to defend the hypothesis that within the spectrum of religious dialogue present within the novel, there is an overwhelming undertone of neo-pagan ideals. These ideals are presented as being positive, in the sense that they are life-supporting, rather than life-hindering. The main contention that I will draw will deal with the aspect of taboo, and how it is adressed throughout the novel. Contrary to Sigmund Freud's ideas (Freud's book Totem and Taboo will serve as the basis for my arguments) of taboo being a life-hindering, neurotic framework of belief, the views expressed by the two main narrators of the novel are in favor of taboo, and the narration itself draws a tragic end for the character who consistently defies these taboos. There is a moral aspect to the story expressed within the relationship of the two main characters, Xavier Bird and Elijah Whiskeyjack, and is based on this very adherence, or lack thereof, to taboos. The main taboo consistently appears to be that of cannibalism associated with the infamous Algonquin mythological figure of the windigo, which is the most frequent metaphor used within the narrtaive and is the most productive...
Spirituality of Young Romanies
Lorencová, Linda ; Nová, Monika (advisor) ; Drahoňovský, Jan (referee)
The diploma thesis on the topic "Spirituality of Young Romanies" disserts on spirituality amongst them. The spirituality is pursued in general and its levels, possibilities of saturation and ties to institutions are comprised. A chapter describing the history of the Romanies and phenomena associated with the spirituality of the Romanies is included. The aim of the thesis is to find out whether the phenomena are still relevant in connection with Romany religiosity and whether they differ in the Ústí nad Labem Region and in the East of Slovakia, where these traditions are still represented in the majority society. In my theses I also trace whether there is syncretism. For the practical part, I have chosen quantitative research with the technique of a questionnaire survey.

Semiotic "ethnography" of Deleuze and Guattari and non-standard animism
Šír, David ; Charvát, Martin (advisor) ; Fulka, Josef (referee)
The starting point of this work is the concept of indigenous animism in Félix Guattari's late work at the end of his life, understood as a form of subjectivity operating through different regimes of signs than the "modern" one. These animist semiotics are "polysemic" and "trans-individual," while instead of building a sharp division between the spheres of "nature" and "culture", they inhabit reality by "collective entities half-thing half-soul, half- man half-animal, machine and flow, matter and sign." The aim of most of the following text is then primarily to trace these semiotics across the joint work of Deleuze and Guattari. After introducing the context of Deleuze's philosophy and its specific "image of thought," and explaining its basic concepts, we will focus on the description and comparison of the semiotic "ethnographies" of Anti-Oedipus and A Thousand Plateaus. The first volume traces the "universal history" of the ways of hominization (becoming human) of man from the state of nature, through various forms of inscription, which constitute society and culture. These modes are several and do not work only through language. In the limit experience of schizophrenia, the authors of Anti-Oedipa find a moment preceding all these historically contingent forms of hominization. In contrast, the...
History and myth in the novel Terra sonâmbula by the Mozambican author Mia Couto
Trsková, Klára ; Dufková, Vlasta (advisor) ; Grauová, Šárka (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to investigate the way categories of history and myth project into the novel Sleepwalking Land, as well as discuss the importance of Mia Couto's work for the mozambican cultural renewal during the post-civil war period. The study presents a syntesis of primary sources, focusing mainly on mozambican history in the signification of the myth, mythic time, animism, animatism, religious fetishism and ancestor reverence and their projection into the novel.
